Transgressive behavior

NFIR supports victims of transgressive behavior by using digital forensics to gather evidence and identify the perpetrator.

Transgressive behavior comes in many different forms. Think sexual transgressive behavior, harassment or stalking. This can take place both privately and in the workplace. These cases have a great impact on the victim’s life, so gathering evidence to support a report is important.

Much of our lives today take place on the digital plane. Social contacts are often via e-mail, SMS or telephone, or through applications such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok or Twitter. This can also apply to transgressive behavior. These include messages from someone indicating that the victim is being watched, sexually explicit messages or harassing messages that are threatening in nature. It is possible to forensically secure messages, laptops and/or phones and find traces and clues in them to possibly identify the perpetrator.

What should I do if I notice transgressive behavior taking place within my company?

First, it is important to provide a safe space for the person experiencing and reporting this behavior to discuss it. In addition, it is important to ensure that all messages, photos and/or documents related to this behavior are preserved so that NFIR can secure and investigate them. Consider taking company assets such as a victim’s work laptop or work phone, on which there may be traces. Is one of your employees suspected of transgressive behavior? Then check what has been agreed upon in the employee handbook regarding taking company assets and blocking the employee’s account. Make sure this takes place when possible so that the chances of erasing traces are reduced.

I know who the perpetrator is, what should I do?

If you suspect who the perpetrator is, you can indicate this during the intake. As a Private Investigation Agency, NFIR engages in objective truth-telling based on factual evidence. Of course, we will take your suspicions into account during the investigation, but we will also consider alternative scenarios and perpetrators to avoid tunnel vision.

Can digital forensics help with a report?

Yes indeed! NFIR’s reports can be used in a report and even in going to court, should it come to that.
